I am a retired Indiana University film professor, documentary filmmaker, and Vietnam War veteran, I was drafted into the United States Navy in 1968 and served four years during the war — an experience that shaped both my life and my work.
After returning home, I discovered nonfiction storytelling in college and began a five-decade career in documentary filmmaking devoted to telling true stories with honesty, respect, and human connection. My recent films focused on the human consequences of war, particularly among veterans and their families. Rather than centering on combat, I explore what comes after — memory, reconciliation, and shared humanity.
